Sonia, RN
She brings energy, warmth, and a strong sense of respect for the role each patient plays in their family. Teaching is one of her favorite parts of nursing, and she works to give patients the skills and confidence they need to manage treatment independently. Sonia believes there are countless positives about HDT, but she is especially proud that the team is united in trying to deliver the best possible care and keep patients healthy, comfortable, and ready for transplant if that is part of their plan.
She will always recommend HDT because she truly believes patients here receive the best results with the highest quality home dialysis care.

Chris, Registered Dietitian Nutritionist
Chris is a registered dietitian at the HDT South Clinic. His personal and professional experience with many different cultures helps him build trust quickly and understand what really matters to each patient and family he works with.
He is especially drawn to caring for people on home dialysis. Because home patients have more control over their treatment, he sees that they are often highly engaged and motivated, which creates a strong partnership around nutrition and health goals. Chris finds it rewarding to help patients use food and lifestyle changes to support the freedom that home dialysis can offer.
For Chris, the most meaningful part of his work is seeing home dialysis patients maintain energy for the parts of life that matter most. He is inspired by patients who manage full-time jobs, show up for their loved ones, and still keep up with their treatment and diet plans. Outside of clinic, Chris stays active by playing soccer several times a week and following a balanced, healthy diet himself, so patients can be confident that he practices the same habits he helps them build.

Luz has been working in dialysis for over 35 years! From ICHD as a Secretary in a patient owned dialysis unit to managing the Acute Program for 8 hospitals for 13 years, and now working in a peritoneal dialysis setting at HDT’s Chula Vista location since 2017, Luz has made a career out of helping patients from the moment they come into the clinic until the moment they leave.
In her 8 years at HDT, Luz has seen that here doctors are very respectful to staff and patients, and they truly take care of their patients. She has experienced the difference of HDT and seen that, unlike other clinics, management and staff become like a family.
Over her long career in dialysis, Luz knows that HDT is the best option for patients because “We treat patients as family and not just as a number.”
Outside of HDT, Luz has a multitude of passions. First and foremost is her passion for spending time with her family and taking care of her new grandbaby! She also loves collecting all types of bird things, with a specific passion for owls.
When you’re ready to take the leap and join the HDT, Luz is likely to be the first one you meet! Want to experience the difference that a caring and helpful staff can have on your dialysis journey? Contact us to schedule an appointment or your free options training session today!
Brian
Brian is one of the first people you will speak with when you call the clinic and one of the first faces you will see when you arrive. He is bilingual in English and Spanish, which allows him to help many patients and families communicate clearly about their care and ask questions in the language that feels most natural to them.
He handles a wide range of care coordination tasks, including scheduling appointments, obtaining medical records, making sure transplant labs are sent to the correct transplant center, and verifying insurance coverage. If you want to confirm that we accept your insurance or schedule a one-on-one dialysis options class to learn whether home dialysis is a good fit for you or your loved one, Brian is the person who will help you get everything arranged.
