At Home Dialysis Therapies of San Diego

We Are Committed To Our Patients

Here at Home Dialysis Therapies of San Diego, we believe every patient deserves the freedom to live life on their own terms. Our care model is built on education, trust, and individualized attention, empowering patients and their families to confidently manage dialysis at home. With expert training, 24-hour clinical support, and a compassionate team that knows your journey personally, we turn treatment into independence and care into partnership.

The team at Home Dialysis of SD is truly our extended family. When we knew we were headed in this direction, we had zero knowledge about it and even less enthusiasm. We were quickly guided by our trusted Nephrologist (Kim Harper) into this nest of amazing caregivers. Their gentle care and expertise made us comfortable with the new situation in a matter of weeks. We learned from their thorough training and patience how to take care of our dialysis at home independently -- but we know that the team is only a phone call/email away 24/7. We've had complex situations arise -- related to insurance, work, family care, etc -- and their team includes someone professionally trained to help in each situation. If you are requiring dialysis, I cannot recommend more highly that you schedule a meeting with Home Dialysis of San Diego -- you'll be in the best of hands.

Our Home Dialysis
Services

Our home dialysis program gives you the freedom to manage treatment safely at home, with training, support, and 24-hour clinical guidance. Explore the options below to learn how each therapy works and how our team helps you live independently.

Automated Peritoneal Dialysis (APD)

Automated peritoneal dialysis (APD) uses a cycler machine at night while you sleep, offering a hands-off approach to dialysis and leaving your days free. This option is ideal for people who want flexibility in their life while still receiving effective treatment at home. Our team provides thorough support so you feel confident managing APD safely and independently.

Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis (CAPD)

Continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD) is done continuously throughout the day, offering convenience and helping to maintain a patient’s independence. This gentle, portable form of dialysis allows treatment anywhere, helping patients stay active, travel, and live life with fewer restrictions than they would have at an in-center program.

Home Hemodialysis (HHD)

Home hemodialysis (HHD) is an innovative option that offers greater flexibility in your treatment schedule, allowing for more frequent sessions compared to traditional in-center dialysis. By performing dialysis at home, patients often experience improved energy, better sleep, and a stronger sense of control over their daily routine.

Free Options Education

We offer free, one-on-one options education with an experienced registered nephrology nurse, grounded in our commitment to patient empowerment by providing education on all available treatment options. These sessions with our experienced nurses help you and your loved ones understand which dialysis option best fits your lifestyle, goals, and needs.

We Support Patients Outside The Clinic

Practical, clinic-aligned resources for living on home dialysis. Use these pages to plan food, fitness, work, travel, and transplant steps with clearer expectations and fewer surprises. Each guide is built to help you prepare questions for your care team and make decisions with confidence.

Dietary Support

Dialysis diets can feel confusing because potassium, phosphorus, sodium, and fluids show up in everyday foods. Use lab-informed guidance, meal planning ideas, and shopping tips to reduce guesswork. Bring what you learn into your appointments so your plan fits your labs and your real life.

Transplant Support

Many dialysis patients aim for a kidney transplant, but the path can feel unclear at first. Learn the typical steps that affect timing, including evaluations, records, and day-to-day habits. Use our question prompts and planning guidance to stay organized and work with your transplant and dialysis teams.

Fitness on Dialysis

Staying active can support energy, mood, and strength, but safety depends on your situation and treatment type. Explore practical routines, pacing strategies, and common precautions so you can start small and progress steadily. The goal is consistent movement that fits your schedule, not pushing through exhaustion.

Traveling on Dialysis

Travel is often possible with home dialysis when you plan early and document key details. Use checklists for supplies, prescriptions, schedules, shipping, and emergency contacts, plus guidance on what to confirm before you leave. The objective is fewer last-minute scrambles and a clearer backup plan if plans change.

Working on Dialysis

Work can still be realistic on dialysis when your schedule, energy, and support needs are planned intentionally. Hear It From
Our Patients

At Home Dialysis Therapies of San Diego, our greatest measure of success is the lives we’ve helped transform. These words from our patients reflect the compassion, expertise, and lasting relationships that define every aspect of our care.

“I am healthy again, and there is seldom a day when I don’t look back at this really rough time in my life and remember the kindness that was shared with me. I will always be thankful to the HDTSD staff for getting me through this dark time.”

Craig H.

HDT Patient

“From the moment you walk in the door you will be treated as family, not just another patient, and their first question is always “how do you feel?” and not “did you bring your flow sheets?””

Kender M.

HDT Patient

“Dr King and his team are amazing! They do care about their patients as if they were family. Dialysis is hard; but as soon as you enter you can feel you will be in good hands.”
